Face Painting

From butterflies to ghosts, fairies to lions, and cats to aliens, face painting designs can be as varied as a person’s own imagination.

Many children love getting their faces painted. There are easy and inexpensive ways to go about creating designs for children that are very easy to wash off.

Some popular face painting designs for children include a butterfly, which sees a butterfly wingspan drawn over the face from the eyebrows down to the cheeks. A basic clown face is an easy design. Just paint a face a full white using a sponge and paint the nose area red. A ghost design is similar but involves painting a face a similar white color (or gray or light blue) and darkening the area around the eyes with thick black paint. Halloween themes have all sorts of interesting face painting designs like vampires, zombies, witches and even realistic looking cuts and bruises on the face.

Some face painting designs for kids are theme based, featuring icons and symbols (and even faces) from popular movies and TV shows. Spiderman, Godzilla, Darth Maul, Batman and The Joker are some popular designs, with a whole host of other colorful faces to choose from.

Along with face paint designs, temporary tattoos are also used; and not only is the art limited to a person’s face, but the same facial design can be brought down to the arms and chest area.

Are face painting designs only for kids? Not at all. Face painting designs for adults are also very popular, with full-grown individuals not only sporting the faces of their favorite characters, celebrities, or rock stars, but also putting on some more avant-garde designs.

One form of new age face painting for adults is called “paintings outdoors”, which decorates a person’s face according to a famous painting (such as Mona Lisa or American Gothic) and also includes a picture frame and scenery that the face painter carries with them.

The more adult-oriented version of face painting designs would be body art, which paints a person’s entire figure, including the face, arms and chest area, stomach, legs, back, and etc, so that he or she becomes a living work of art.

Face painting designs are commonly used as a party theme for children and adults. Party caterers can arrange for an artist to be on hand for a party and give face painting designs to the entire guest list.

Face painting designs are traditional and go back in history hundreds of years. The colorful faces you see represent not only artistic expression, but bring a spirit of fun and celebration to any event.
