Located on the Florida Panhandle’s Emerald Coast, Fort Walton Beach was voted one of America’s Top 10 places to live. Fort Walton Beach is home to just over 22,000 making it a small town community with big city ambitions. Fort Walton Beach was charted in 1937, but the area has a long history. There were thriving Indian communities here between 600 and 1650. Even notorious pirates like Billy Bowlegs inhabited Fort Walton Beach between 1500 and 1800. Fort Walton Beach is a part of Okaloosa County, Florida.

Fort Walton Beach got its name from the Walton Guards who set up a camp there during the Civil War. Before that, Fort Walton Beach was known as Brooks Landing, named after John Thomas Brooks who settled there with his family in 1868.

Fort Walton Beach has always been a destination spot for visitors since its beginning. Travelers arrived in Fort Walton Beach from all parts of the East Coast and the Midwest, not to mention its attraction even for neighbors from the southeastern United States. They came to Fort Walton Beach for its hospitality and service. Fort Walton Beach became famous for its water pavilion where tourists danced the night away.
