New Jersey

Being a New Jersey lawyer, I can tell you that this area is pretty unique. Essentially, much of New Jersey is an extended bedroom community for Manhattan, and that complicates legal matters tremendously. Some of the more popular fields for a NJ lawyer are real estate law, and tax law, this is because of the number of rich New Yorkers who live here. They commute across state lines every day, develop their property in New Jersey (where it is less expensive than in New York), and then try to take advantage of our favorable tax rates, despite the fact that they work in New York. All of these factors require the services of a NJ lawyer like myself, and we are kept quite busy every day.

Of course, there are plenty of other areas for a NJ lawyer to go into. There are the usual calls for a personal injury lawyer to sue for slip and fall accidents. There are medical malpractice lawyers by the handful, just like everywhere else. And then there is the environmental justice work done by so many NJ lawyers.

You see, because of the prevalence of toxic chemical plants and dumps where we process much of the waste of New York and other surrounding states, New Jersey is rather severely polluted. As a NJ lawyer, I do quite a bit of pro-bono work in the communities that are the most severely affected by these scourges: the poor and minority communities. In these areas, asthma rates, cancer and leukemia rates, and the rates of many other environmental-related diseases, are at elevated levels, adversely affecting the health of the residents. Being poor, many of these people can not afford to hire the services of a NJ lawyer, so many of us volunteer our time to make sure that the plants upgrade to operate more safely, and compensate the people who have been adversely affected by their terrible polluting practices.

Of course, that is only half of the work I do as a lawyer in NJ. The rest of it is rather prosaic, really. I work in both divorce and property law which are, as you might imagine, closely related fields. I have had an excellent success rate since beginning my career as a NJ lawyer. My clients are likely to get favorable outcomes – certainly much more likely than with the average NJ lawyer. I am proud of what I do.
