American Prints
American Prints
I am a great art lover and I also like iconic images of America, so I like to see what American prints are available. There is a lot of variety and imaginative photographs, posters and painting reproductions. Some are very familiar and others less so.
There are many images which capture important landmarks in America's history. Washington crossing over the Delaware is one such painting and there are several pictures of Abraham Lincoln, John Kennedy and Bobby Kennedy. There is a striking image of Dr. Martin Luther King giving one of his famous speeches to the crowd. Some American prints depict Malcolm X and there is a moving picture which portrays Rosa Parks sitting on the bus seat which she refused to give up to a white man.
Patriotism is a strong theme amongst these reproductions and the American flag is representative of these sorts of American Prints. One interesting print shows the development of the Stars and Stripes thru history in its eight stages. Another shows the flag superimposed over the Declaration of Independence.
Sport is another popular subject with images of sporting moments in the fields of football, boxing and baseball. One of the sporting American prints is of Jackie Robinson getting a home run in 1952. Another shows various photographs of major league ballparks.
Architectural landmarks are another subject, with images of the Statue of Liberty and the Golden Gate Bridge. New York is very often featured in American prints, with views of the skyline and specific buildings such as the Flatiron Building, the Empire State Building and the Chrysler building. There are also night time pictures of these. A beautiful full moon hangs over the Lincoln Memorial. A 1958 photograph shows a group of Harlem residents posing in front of a tenement.
Moving pictures associated with the military and war are another recurring theme of American prints. There are images of fighting men and a poignant shot of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington. From recent times, there is a shot of New York firefighters raising the flag at Ground Zero.
Culture plays an important part in showing aspects of America. There are a lot of American prints of jazz musicians in photographs, including Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis and Louis Armstrong. There are also advertising posters from the 1940s and 1950s of jazz concerts. Smoky interiors of jazz and blues clubs are very atmospheric. Literature is not forgotten, and there's a print made up of individual photographs of American authors such as Edgar Allan Poe, F. Scott Fitzgerald and John Steinbeck.
Different races are represented in these pictures. There are several American prints of Native Americans, showing historical Chiefs and pursuits like a buffalo hunt. In contrast, there are travel posters for Cuba and Peru.
